Helpful Information
How text extraction works
The tool reads the PDF's text layer — the actual character data stored in the document — and outputs it as clean plain text. Page boundaries are marked with separators so you can identify which content came from which page. Multi-column text is joined in reading order.
Scanned PDFs
Scanned PDFs contain images of text, not actual text data. If you upload a scanned PDF, the tool will report that no text layer was found. Use the OCR tool first to add a searchable text layer, then extract the text.
Layout preservation
Text items are joined in reading order, but complex column layouts may not be perfectly reconstructed. Simple single-column documents produce the cleanest output. For complex multi-column layouts, some manual cleanup may be needed.
