Helpful Information

How the editor works

Every PDF page is rendered to a canvas in your browser. Anything you add — text, images, drawings, highlight and whiteout boxes — is stored as an overlay element positioned in real PDF coordinates. When you click Apply, the overlays are written into a new PDF with their actual page positions, so the result looks the same in every viewer.

Editing vs. changing existing content

This tool adds content on top of the page. It does not reflow, delete or re-type existing text — that would require OCR and layout reconstruction. For covering content, use Whiteout; for permanently removing sensitive content, use the Redact tool.

Working on multiple pages

Use the page arrows in the toolbar to move between pages. Edits are kept per page, so you can decorate a cover page, sign the last page and highlight something in the middle — all in one session before saving.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does editing change the original text?
No. Edits are drawn on top of the existing page content. Use Whiteout to visually cover something, or the Redact tool for secure removal.
Can I edit scanned PDFs?
Yes — you can add text, images and drawings on top of any PDF, including scans. The scanned content itself is not converted to editable text.
Is whiteout the same as redaction?
No. Whiteout draws white boxes over content; the underlying text is still in the file. Use the Redact tool when you need content permanently removed.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. Rendering and saving happen entirely in your browser using pdf.js and pdf-lib. Your document never leaves your device.
Can I move an edit after placing it?
Yes. With the Select tool active, click any edit and drag it to a new position. Images also get a corner handle you can drag to resize.
Does the edit stay permanently?
The edits are baked into the downloaded PDF as page content, so they appear in every viewer. You can always go back to the original file and edit again.
